The Painted Desert for NYT, T Magazine

03 June, 2016

Nick spent a week in India shooting the forgotten frescoes of the ‘havelis’, the old and once lavish homes of Rajasthan. Every day involved an experience of reminiscing the days of battle, myth and pride of a land ruled by the desert of Marwar. The havelis are mostly empty now, but it is their desolated state that make these three-dimensional canvases a wonder to the eye. The stories and imagination of its people remain imprinted since the 19th century. The story was published in New York Times T Mag in May 2016. See the entire series here.
